How to Prevent Pets from Fleas
Most people love to keep pets in their homes and they are a good companion apart from that at times they can be affected by pests. These pets are affected by pests depending on the season and place that one lives. Fleas are some of the pests that will affect the pets and can actually be a big problem. Fleas can be a concern all year long in warmer climates. A concern for the pets and family health they usually are. In some colder areas the pests can give someone together with their pets a resting time but that does not mean that they will not be back. Since they will always look for their next home during such times they will actually be back during the warmer season.
Caused by fleas are a lot of health concerns for the pets and they include; flea allergy dermatitis, anemia and many more. A very common disease in pets such as cats and dogs is flea allergy dermatitis and it is associated with flea bites. In the pets the skin disease causes a lot of itching and scratching which in turn leads to hair loss. Also associated with flea bites on the other hand is anemia. In an animal signs of anemia can be; weariness, pale skin, chills and shortness of breath. By avoiding the pets from full infestation from the flea maybe during peak seasons can help in achieving a lasting impact towards the animals’ health and happiness. The signs that one’s pet has fleas infestations can be noticeable skin problems such as hair loss, hot spots and rashes. The saliva from fleas can cause if the pet suffers from serious allergic reactions. A common sign of fleas in any animal this usually is.
Flea dirt can result to black peppered spots on the fur or the skin of the animal. A combination of the flea waste and blood that develops as the flea bites and sucks blood out of the pets is the flea dirt. If one passes a moist towel over the flea dirt it will leave a brownish red stain and therefore if a person is not sure whether the spots are flea dirt they can pass a moist towel over it. That an animal is infested with fleas the other sign is excessive chewing and scratching. The saliva that is secreted by fleas causes an itching sensation on the animals skin which results to a lot of scratching. Injuries can be caused on the skin of the animal by scratching hence wounds and also flea allergy dermatitis can be caused and other secondary bacterial infections because of the open wounds.
